Youth Band Workshop with Jesse Smathers

Join us at the Handmade House on June 2, 9, and 16, 2025 from 3:30 pm to 5:00 pm for a Youth Music Workshop with Jesse Smathers. Cost is $60 for three sessions.
Jesse Smathers will offer a workshop called “Conversations as a Band” in our Youth Summer Music Workshop series. This workshop will include three sessions, and is designed for young musicians between ages 10 to 18 who are intermediate or advanced players currently in a band.
Learn how to work better together as a band to create interesting dynamics and creative ways to make your own unique band sound. Students should currently be working with other students in a band and have had some stage performance experience as a group. This workshop will extend for three sessions, and we will explore:
Monday, June 2 – Part 1
- Rhythmic roles for each instrument
- Playing with dynamics
- Where to put runs or fills
Monday, June 9 – Part 2
- Picking out the right key to fit your voice and being open to change
- Having good constructive communication
- Arrangement
Monday, June 16 – Part 3
- Lead roles of each instrument
- Finding your voice in your instrument – picking lead.
To register your young musician, click the registration link below, and then select the workshop your child wants to attend. Then you will be able to confirm the date of the session and enroll your child in the class.
